Good Thoughts, Good Works, Good People

Ever see the movie, Pay It Forward? Me neither. But I get the gist of the thing. Do a good deed and ask that the recipient "pay it forward" by doing another good deed. There's a TV ad (right, I have no idea what the product is) that has a similar theme. One person witnesses an act of kindness and proceeds to perform such an act of kindness and so on and so forth.

Good news is hard to come by these days. Looking on the bright side. Finding the silver lining. Smiling in the face of adversity. Not such frequent occurences, are they?

With global warming, health care crisis, crime on the rise, a financial meltdown during the waning days of the Great Idiot Presidency, home foreclosures, jobs evaporating - well it is hard to find things to warm the cockles of our heart.

As a child I read the book, Pollyanna. Who was always able to find a reason to be "glad", even after being run over by a car and paralyzed. OK, so I found the little twit too perky too live, frankly.

But everybody needs a little Pollyanna in this day and age. Otherwise we'll string ourselves up over the depressing news that flows from the talking heads every day. Whether they are on the wide-screen, flat-screen, Hi-Def TV screen, or on the internet and computer screens, the "feel good" story is pretty much a rarity.

So I'm going to change all that. I'm going to reach out to everyone with good news. Feel good news. Happy thoughts. Glad tidings. You know, that kind of too perky to live, Pollyanna, goody-goody stuff that we are in dire need of.

Because otherwise we'll all be too depressed to live.

Happy to hear stories of self-less giving, neighbors helping neighbors, good kids (instead of bad), a story of generosity over the internet rather than cyber-bullying. Animals rescues instead of animal attacks. Good samaritans rather than stalkers. Someone saving a life instead of a drive-by shooting.

What do you say? Think you can dig up this kind of news? Think you can dig it?

I bet if you get a smile once a day, it will help you pass on some sweetness and light. Just go easy on the sweetness, OK?
